On February 6, the Chapin Eagles, lead by Region IV Coach of the Year, Ken Wilson, hosted the first two rounds of the State Team (Duals) Tournament and defeated Berea and Palmetto. The Eagles advance to the Upper State semi-finals and will face Eastside in Taylors, SC on February 8 in a battle of number 1 seeds.

Following two forfeits by Berea, Dylan Whitcomb, Paul Collingwood, and Cole Hodges registered consecutive pins to stake the Eagles to a 36-0 advantage. Berea had battled back to close the gap to 36-7 when Dalton Pierce, AJ Spearman, and Cory Bianco each won by pin to extend the score to 54-7. Berea forfeited 2 of the final 3 bouts and the Eagles prevailed 66-13.
Chapin then faced Palmetto. After spotting the Mustangs a 6-0 lead, Noel Hurley closed the gap to 6-4 with a major decision. Whitcomb, Collingwood, Hodges, and Taylor Cabe all won by pin, and Kyle Nichols earned a major decision to increase the Eagles’ advantage to 32-6. Palmetto continued to fight and with the score 32-18, the Eagles won 4 of the last 5 bouts with Spearman, Cole Haile, Nick Edenfield, and Manos executing pins for a final score of 56-24. The pin by Haile was his thirtieth this season.
